‘NUTCRACKER’ AT THE CONRAD

“Nutcracker. No Sugar” will make its debut at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., Dec. 15, at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, 7600 Fay Ave. The performance, presented by Ballet Institute of San Diego, will feature nearly a dozen La Jolla dancers in this twist on the traditional classic. Created by founder and artistic director Egle Spokaite, the play has elements of a traditional “Nutcracker” as well as an unexpected look at the beloved holiday ballet, including spotlighting karate students from Eagle Martial Arts of La Jolla. HANDEL’S MESSIAH

Ruben Valenzuela will lead the La Jolla Symphony chamber orchestra, chorus soloists, and audience members in the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah at 4 p.m., Dec. 15 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel St., in Carlsbad.
