PACIFIC BEACH — Construction crews worked Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the corner of Cass and Emerald streets to replace underground electrical boxes in preparation for Water Group Job 3012, the water main replacement program established by the City of San Diego for Pacific Beach. The program will replace nearly eight miles of cast iron water main pipes throughout Pacific Beach. The major water pipe replacement project will run from Sept. 24 through summer 2012. A construction crew from El Cajon Grading and Engineering dug approximately four feet below the road surface to replace an electrical box in order to make room for the newer cast iron pipe which will be four inches larger in diameter than the eight-inch pipe it is placing. A representative from the crew said there were two electrical boxes that required replacement prior to the start of Water Group Job 3012, with the other location being on Lamont Street. The construction there will take place on another day. The right-hand turn lane from Cass to Emerald was closed to traffic.
