The Crusaders Soccer Club is continuing its winning ways this summer.
In July, two of our competitive teams won their respective divisions in the San Diego Soccer Club, Escondido “Surf Summer Classic” tournament. It was held in over 100-degree heat at Ryan Park in Escondido on July 21–22. Our Boys 2013 Premiere team coached by Lauren Johnson, and our Girls 2014 Elite team coached by Enko Telahun were the tournament champions in their division.
The teams competed against other teams from throughout Southern California. Johnson stated, “There were six teams in our division. This was my team’s first tournament as a new team primarily consisting of players brought up from our awesome recreational program to the competitive division.”
Also in July, Crusaders Soccer had teams in the Coronado Crown City tournament. Our Boys 2009 Academy team coached by Seth Tunick and our Boys 2008 Academy team coached by Justin Robinett were finalists in their respective divisions.
Victor Melendez, the Crusaders soccer director of coaching, recently announced the hiring of four very talented competitive coaches to help with the growing number of competitive teams. The newest coaches are Salvador Ruiz, Nick Ascolese, Ivan Melendez and Alfonso Escalona.
The week of Aug. 5 concluded six weeks of summer training sessions for the Crusaders Soccer competitive teams and open and goalkeeper camps for all competitive and recreational soccer players. All sessions were held on the turf fields at Pershing Middle School.
All the Crusaders competitive teams are continuing with twice a week practices. The week of Aug. 19, nearly 1,000 recreational players will begin team practices throughout the Navajo Community. The season for our competitive and recreational programs begins on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Crusaders Soccer has served the youth of San Diego for over five decades of excellence.
