
News, events and noteworthy items from Pacific Beach-area schools: • Come out and show your Buc pride on Friday, Oct. 14 at Mission Bay High School’s (MBHS) Homecoming celebration. The festivities and game start at 3 p.m. at the school stadium. The MBHS Alumni Association’s fifth annual All-Alumni Homecoming Celebration will host a VIP tent for all former MBHS students and faculty. Royalty will be crowned and players will be highlighted in this Mission Bay High School community event. Come out and support your MBHS Buccaneers as they battle Serra High. • The MBHS Homecoming dance, “Blast From the Past,” will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the school gym. Seniors will come dressed in attire from the 1920s, juniors from the 1950s, sophomores from the 1960s and freshman from the 1980s. With music from all eras, this Homecoming dance will have something for everyone. • The Mossy “Drive 1 for your School” at Mission Bay High School will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mossy Ford will team with MBHS for the fundraiser. Anyone 18 years or older can come to Mission Bay High School between during that time and take a short test drive in a new Ford vehicle around a marked area in the parking lot. Mossy Ford will donate $20 for each test drive. Extended test drives will be available if desired but there is no obligation to purchase a car. The entire community is welcome to attend and participants must have a valid driver’s license and be 18 years or older. • FOPBSS (Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools) thanks the Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) for its generous donations to Pacific Beach Middle School and Mission Bay High. Joe Wilding, president of the PBTC, attended the PBMS and MBHS open houses and presented $500 to each school. These funds will help supplement the library at PBMS and provide college preparation materials at MBHS. The Town Council’s generosity and community outreach continue to positively impact the lives of the residents of Pacific Beach. • Another “thank you” goes to Phils’ Barbeque for donating the amazing “Back to School Night” dinner at Pacific Beach Middle School . Woodstocks Pizza catered the open house at Mission Bay High, providing, eight different kinds of pizza, Ceasar salad and “cinna” bread . Thank you for supporting your local schools. • On Saturday, Oct. 15, Pacific Beach Elementary will present the musical “Jungle Book.” Missoula Children’s Theater casts this charming piece with over 50 children from Pacific Beach Elementary who rehearse one full week after school. Performances are Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available in the school office. For more information, call (858) 488-8316. • Kate Sessions Elementary School is hosting its second annual Halloween costume drive and sale. Donate your gently-used costumes through Oct. 14. The sale begins Oct. 17. For more details, email [email protected]. • The annual Kate Sessions Halloween Carnival will take place Oct 28th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the school. The community is invited to attend and enjoy games, food, pony rides and a spooky haunted house. Come celebrate the fall season with the staff and families of Kate Session Elementary. • Crown Point Junior Music Academy’s PTA will hold its Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 24-27. The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to present a unified, positive and visible commitment toward a safe and drug-free America . The PTA is kicking off the weeklong activities with a performance from “Crew” on Monday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. CPJMA parents are welcome to join. The week concludes with the annual Trunk or Treat Halloween Festival on Friday, Oct. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m.
