
GETTING INTO GEAR
Kids Gear for Baseball, a nonprofit run by eight students from La Jolla High and The Bishop’s School, has been nominated by the San Diego Padres to receive Major League Baseball’s “Baseball for Tomorrow Fund” equipment grant of $5,000 for their work in collecting used baseball gear for schools, organizations and rec centers.
The group will be collecting used gear ” especially balls and gloves ” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Petco Park.

Outrigger Challenge returns to Bahia Point
Paddles are hitting the water to benefit the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl when the Maui Jim Outrigger Challenge and Luau returns to Bahia Point Saturday, April 26.
The outrigger teams are made up of five paddlers. At least two members must be women.
The course is 200 meters and the race format is double elimination.
Race registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by race instruction at 9 a.m. Competition starts at 10 a.m.
The entry fee is $200 per team, and an outrigger canoe and steerperson is provided for the race.
A luau follows the competition and will feature music and food provided by Da’Kine’s. Kono Brew Company will provide the beverages.
