Two Mission Bay High School athletes were named winter all-CIF performers by a panel of sportswriters and coaches from throughout San Diego at the Hall of Champions last month. In boys’ basketball, Buccaneers senior guard Derrick Thompson was named to the boys basketball all-CIF Second Team, the best player on a team that finished 14-11 and was knocked off in the CIF Division III quarterfinals. In girls’ soccer, sophomore Christian Burkenroad received Second Team honors. Burkenroad finished the season with 35 goals for a Bucs team that went 19-6-3.
