The La Jolla YMCA gymnastics team, one of 30 selected to compete at the national level, took two first-place awards and one third-place honor at the USA Gymnastics for All National Championships, held in Orlando, Fla. on June 21 and 22. The team competed at three different levels, with scoring based on a group-floor routine, tumbling passes, vault and mini-trampoline. The team has also been selected as the only YMCA entry represented on the USA team at the World Gymnaestrada, to be held in the summer of 2015 in Finland. The event, the world’s largest gymnastics meet, is held every four years in a different country before more than 100,000 spectators.
The La Jolla YMCA will be raising funds in order to attend this event in Finland. Those interested in sponsoring the team can contact the La Jolla YMCA at (858) 453-3483.
The La Jolla YMCA program is designed to build confidence, camaraderie and sportsmanship, with young gymnasts qualifying through class participation.
