The San Diego Music Hall of Fame will hold its fourth annual induction ceremony next month in Ocean Beach on Nov. 11 at the Newbreak Church, 4694 Cape May Ave., with doors opening at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 event, according to Jefferson Jay, San Diego Music Hall of Fame founder and event host.
Among this year’s honorees is retired Point Loma High School teacher Larry Zeiger (above), who co-wrote and produced memorable student musical productions that helped launch the musical careers of generations of area youth during his 33 years on campus.
Others being recognized include Gustavo Romero, the U.S. Marine Band of San Diego, Chris Hillman, The Cheathams, and Alex DePue.
Concert pianist Romero is a San Diego native internationally renowned for his technical brilliance. He has performed with the world’s leading orchestras. Romero will perform at the event.
The U.S. Marine Corps Band performs at more than 350 events each year across the nation. Hillman, a former member of The Byrds, has spent nearly six decades transforming West Coast country music and modern rock and roll.
The Cheathams included Jimmy and Jeannie, who together, became The Sweet Baby Blues Band and played Kansas City-style blues. Jimmy led the UC San Diego jazz programs from 1978 until his retirement in 2005. He died in 2007.
DiPue is a concertmaster and fiddling champion, a pioneering musician known for his cross-genre fiddle playing, which ranged from rock to bluegrass to classical and everything in between. He died earlier this year.
