Summer is here and for those with kids, Arts District Liberty Station will have no shortage of summer camps. The Peninsula Beacon asked Arts District businesses about the kind of summer camp experiences they’re offering this year.

Sharon Zeichner, CEO, Bilingual Kids, 2820 Roosevelt Road, #203: “I grew up in Mexico City and learned English within three months of moving to San Diego. I chose to step outside of the box and create Bilingual Kids. By creating a unique methodology that engages children to not only learn a language but enjoy doing so through a fun, engaging, and personalized environment. I wanted to create a space for children to continue their quest for language learning and that is when our first summer camp took place. Since then, we have had thousands of children partake in our camps, returning year after year.
“In today’s globalized society, why not give your child the tools they need for success? Spanish, Mandarin, and ESL are the most dominant languages in the world. Bilingual Kids offers a safe space for children to embrace diversity directly through learning alternative communication methodologies, opening their minds, and building confidence, all while having fun and preparing to become global citizens. Cost: This program is $550/week for a limited time for the full-day option. Half-day option $325. We offer 10% sibling discounts and have always offered select scholarships for those who demonstrate the need.”
Bristyl Garvin, The Treehouse Academy, 2590 Truxton Road, #202: “We’re a project-based micro-school, with an emphasis on art, music, and outdoor education. We’re hosting three weeks of summer camps at Liberty Station. Each week has a new theme, including Game On, Canvas Kids, and STEM Revolution. We believe that all children deserve an education that is individualized and brings them joy! Our summer camps are designed to engage, challenge, and uplift every student. Cost: $500 a week. Our summer camps are the week of July 17, July 24, and July 31, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.”
Leslie Vaughn, director, Monart School of Art, 2590 Truxton Rd. #204: Is celebrating its 30th year in bringing comprehensive art education to San Diego. The highly-acclaimed Monart drawing method shows how to perceive the visual world in terms of five basic elements of shape. Monart students learn the skills necessary to translate their perceptions onto paper. This method has achieved phenomenal results among both children and adults. Cost: Senior camp (ages 9-12) is a three-hour camp Monday-Friday and costs $270 per week. Junior camp (ages 6-8) is a two-hour camp Monday-Friday and costs $180 per week. Camps run through Aug. 25.
