Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina announced the commencement of construction on Rumorosa, a Cali-Baja-inspired restaurant at the newly reimagined property located on Harbor Island Drive. Designed to captivate the essence of both sides of the border, Rumorosa will showcase a fresh take on all-day drinking and dining infused with vibrant flavors and a touch of irreverence.
Rumorosa is the first of four food and beverage outlets planned as part of the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina’s multi-million-dollar transformation. Additional details about the forthcoming Brewery X craft beer pub, Sunglow harborside bar and cabana club, and Strada, a casual grab-and-go eatery will be revealed soon.
Embracing the cultural fusion of California and Baja, Rumorosa will transport guests on a culinary journey of discovery while firmly rooting them in the energetic spirit of San Diego. The name “Rumorosa,” derived from the Spanish word for “boisterous,” directly embodies the restaurant’s concept, mirroring the winding, mountainous route from the inland desert to the picturesque Baja coast. The menu will feature an array of inventive and authentic Baja dishes using locally sourced fish from Point Loma such as aguachiles, tortas, and tacos, served alongside updated all-day classics.
“We are located at the epicenter of two flourishing cultural regions and look forward to bringing them together and introducing Rumorosa to San Diego’s vibrant culinary landscape,” said Sean Clancy, vice president and general manager, of Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. “We are passionate about creating a restaurant that honors the rich culinary heritage of neighboring Baja, while also embracing the diverse local dining scene. Rumorosa will be a place where guests can immerse themselves in the flavors, aromas, and energy of both regions, creating a unique and unforgettable experience.”
At the helm of Rumorosa’s culinary program is executive chef Marcos Seville, who brings his locally curated SoCal touches to the forefront. Expect peak season produce, marinated meats and veggies, and fresh-pressed juices forming the foundation of a robust breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. As guests indulge in the modern dining room or relax at the lobby bar, they can anticipate playful and interactive touches, such as tableside tortilla chips and salsa cars, and a robust live music program.
Rumorosa’s cocktail program is set to use regional spirits. Mixologists will blend freshly squeezed juices and housemade citrus cordials, creating colorful and elaborate sippers, with a particular focus on agave and sugarcane-based liquors. Elevating the experience further, the cocktail offerings will encourage interaction, education, and discovery with a selection of premium distillates like tequila, mezcal, sotol, charanda, and tepache. Additionally, adult aguas frescas will make an appearance on the menu, reimagining a classic roadside refresher with an elevated twist. A curated selection of Mexican lagers and regional wines from Baja California will round out the beverage offerings.
Designed by the renowned Forrest Perkins, the ambiance of Rumorosa will transport guests to the picturesque coastal landscapes of Baja, with a contemporary vibe that complements the resort’s modern elegance.
“Rumorosa marks the beginning of our resort’s exciting new dining offerings,” continued Clancy. “We are assembling the best experiences from around the region into four distinct outlets, allowing guests to sample the area’s best eats and drinks in one destination while maintaining the locally-inspired ambiance for which Sheraton is known.”
Rumorosa is expected to open its doors to the public in early 2024. Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina is located at 1380 Harbor Island Drive. For more information, visit sheratonsandiegohotel.com.
