Since 2020, Kiana Ledesma has sifted through flea market clothes to upcycle discarded items into her innovative creations. These designs are influenced by Y2K with a bit of grunge and croquette added in. Ledesma, who named her fashion line LouvuBerry, said she likes a mix of everything combining all these styles. LouvuBerry is part of a growing trend towards sustainability by turning discarded clothe as the fabric for new creations.

Recently Ledesma participated in the Razkal Market & Fashion Show at Queen Bee’s Art and Cultural Center on March 16th. This event was started by Mariano Perez-Appel and Hugo Solorzno back in 2021. The event began with a marketplace for fun shopping.
Ledesma was one of nine different designers on the runway. She created a capsule collection of seven looks called ‘Uniquely Yours.’ First, she started off by creating the fashion illustrations of each design. Next she went to the flea markets to find clothes to upcycle and used her magic to create the items. When complete, the different styles created a fairytale atmosphere for the fashion show. Ledesma said her clothes are for everyone but lean towards androgynous looks.
One design was a pair of jeans turned into a skirt. Another was pants make into a skirt. Ledesma used a blanket to create a sweater and then wrapped it around for a skirt. She was given some vintage tapestry fabric which she used to create corsets. In addition to clothes, Ledesma also creates jewelry and each model wore a piece of her jewelry on the runway. Ledesma said her favorite item that she made was a Heart bag out of Jeans. It sold right away.
I asked Ledesma how she got her name and she said that her grandmother couldn’t speak much English and use to say Louvu instead of “love you.” She loved strawberries so she called her brand LouvuBerry. Vivienne Westwood and Anna Sui are her mentors. This is where she received her inspiration to create her fashions. Currently she is finishing her Fashion Design Degree at Mesa College. In the future, she plans to attend Parson or FIT in New York.
You can see Ledesma’s creations at the next Razkal Market & Fashion Show on June 1. Currently she is selling at markets around the San Diego and you can find her schedule by following her Instagram @Louvuberry or visit her website at louvuberry.storenvy.com/.
