Dozens of fragrant bouquets and flickering candles were among the items placed at a memorial for Point Loma High School junior Italia Bernay who died of suicide on campus sobre Nov. 1 in the early evening. On Nov. 4, a vigil was held in the school’s quad with over 800 students in attendance. Bernay was a member of the PLHS theater group and her loss was deeply felt by its members along with school staff and administrators. Members of the school district’s Crisis response team and other mental health professionals were on hand all of last week to provide support to students and staff. The Suicide and Crisis Hotline can be reached by dialing 988 or going to 988lifeline.org. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with burial and memorial costs at gofundme.com/f/support-italia-bernays-memorial-and-burial. PHOTO BY SCOTT HOPKINS
