Part Portuguese and entirely committed to providing high-quality care in welcoming surroundings, Canadian native Dr. Amanda Lacerda fits right in with her new Point Loma dental practice.
The torch was passed to Lacerda by retired Dr. Scott Becker DDS, whose practice at 3046 Avenida De Portugal she purchased at the end of 2024.
On her website, almadentalsd.com, Becker introduces Lacerda, his replacement, noting she “Is an accomplished and compassionate dental practitioner. I have utmost confidence in her ability to lead my practice into its next phase, building on our foundation of patient-centered care with fresh enthusiasm and advanced expertise. Of her background, Lacerda said: “I’ve been practicing dentistry for 10 years, starting my career in an under-served community in north central British Columbia for the first seven years. That was a great experience as the practice was extremely busy. I owned it for three years before my husband and I decided to move to San Diego.”
What brought you here? “It was such an extended winter, and then summer would come, and we would get smoke because we had so many wildfires nearby started by lightning,” replied Lacerda. “So I was ready for a change. We visited San Diego and were just so in love with the city from the start.”
Becker had been practicing for 20 years. Of him, she noted: “He was passionate about dentistry and was ready to wind down his career. He invested in a lot of great equipment, which I’m benefiting from. Similar to me, he cares for the patients and is connected to the community. It was a pretty natural fit and a very easy transition.”
Asked what she liked best about dentistry, Lacerda replied: “The smile transformations and relieving patients’ pain are probably the most satisfying and rewarding, in very different ways.”
Lacerda’s professional approach is “To preserve and enhance your natural teeth using the least-invasive methods available. With cutting-edge technology, we ensure every treatment is executed with precision, making your visit as beneficial and enjoyable as possible.”
Lacerda points out that full transparency with her patients is crucial on her website. “We ensure you are well-informed about your treatment options, empowering you to make the best decisions for your dental health,” she said.
Of her craft, Lacerda noted: “I pretty much do all the different specialties: root canals, extractions, and, more recently, I trained to place implants and do gum surgeries. I’m certified to do Invisalign (teeth straightening braces alternative), something I will offer soon.”
Lacerda’s passion for dentistry is paralleled by her love for the outdoors and quality time spent with her husband and two dogs, Mickey and Minnie. Her leisure time is characterized by joyous laughter and the warmth of gatherings with friends and family.
