The fourth annual Taste of Mission Beach progressive dinner fundraising event will take place 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 11 throughout the Mission Beach community. Bring your appetites and walking shoes to sample the best eateries in the Mission Beach environ, or take a cruise on the Bahia Belle.
Sponsored by the Mission Beach Women’s Club, all proceeds raised will benefit Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from rescues and trains them to be psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from post traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury and other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. The Mission Beach Women’s Club is dedicated to educational enrichment, community service, social opportunities and charitable giving. The MBWC was organized on Nov. 4, 1926. Founded by Mrs. Olive Van Dorsten, this club was formed devoted to the ideals of community service. Initially, members met at each other’s homes. Eventually the club took over the cottage known as “The Shirley House” which is the base cottage structure of their historic venue. They’re a nonprofit organization with the revenue generated through the venue rental flowing directly back into the community.
