The University City girls lacrosse team looks to close out another impressive season after finishing undefeated in league play (8-0) yet again. This is the third straight year that University City has gone undefeated against league competition with a 30-0 record during that span while finishing 15-3 overall this season after going 16-4 in 2023 and 17-4 in 2022.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to get to the championship this time and keep that number one spot,” said head coach Lizzy Des Enfants.
Des Enfants has been at the helm for the last three years that saw the Centurions get bounced out in the quarterfinal round last season and is why the team is so focused on finishing as champions this time around as the postseason No. 1 seed for CIF Div. II.
Among the standout performers in 2024 are two-time MVP and two-time Eastern League Player of the Year Grace Doolittle who has scored 90 goals with an impressive 52% shooting average almost matching her 95 goals from 2023. Draw specialist Addison Stoppenhagen has been crucial in controlling the ball around the midfield along with providing valuable experience that comes in handy throughout the match. First-year starting goalie Eliza Hudson has also been solid with an outstanding 47% save percentage.
“I expect to continue seeing a lot of passion and a lot of hustle from this team,” Des Enfants added.
University City earned a first-round bye and will next play at home on Friday against the winner of the Eastlake High School versus El Capitan game on Wednesday in Eastlake.
The Centurions finished the regular season with a nine-game winning streak outscoring its opponents 124-59 during that span. The only losses came against Bishop’s on March 7, snapping a five-game win streak to start the season, Carlsbad on March 20 by a score of 20-11, followed by a nail-biting defeat to Mt. Carmel on March 21 by a score of 10-9. The loss to Carlsbad, which also finished in first place in its respective league, was the only home defeat that University City suffered during the regular season.
