There’s a new taste treat in town that’s guaranteed to transport your taste buds to Italy with every scoop of gelato at An’s Electronics Repair on Bacon Street.
Kris Warren, president and CEO, David Aguilera, chief gelato officer, Travis Bailey, chief marketing officer, and Jimmy Blalock, chief financial officer, are four friends who teamed up seven years ago to create this unique concept that has fostered four locations, serving a product voted the No. 1 ice cream in America by USA Today in 2024.

“Our business plan was to create shops that were all independently branded,” said Kris Warren. “I don’t think chains are very cool, the days of rubber stamping a product aren’t being well received. For our Ocean Beach location, we partnered with Michael Soriano to do the interior design. He worked on Raglan Public House and the redesign of the Pearl Hotel.”
Staying true to its former life as an electronics repair shop, the new home for gelato is decorated with TV sets that when new, played classics like “Lassie,” “Lawrence Welk,” and “Star Trek.” Instead of showing reruns of shows from another era, these TVs act as the shop’s menu board.
“David Aguilera is our gelato expert,” said Warren. “He has been making gelato for chefs in Europe for more than a decade, and he makes all of the recipes for us. We are constantly working on new recipes. We’ve done at least 6oo new flavors in the seven years that we’ve been open.”
Every flavor combination has a moniker, for example, the No Signal is a combo of molasses, pecans, vanilla date cake, and butterscotch. The PCB Goldfinger is a blend of turmeric, cardamom, and oat milk. The Riquimbili is a mix of pistachio, raspberry, and passion fruit caramel.
One reason why An’s is worth standing in line for is it’s all homemade with fresh ingredients in San Diego. Warren says his one-of-a-kind gelato is a perfect fit for his hometown of Ocean Beach.
“Anytime we’re looking for a new location I want it to be very local with a lot of character,” said Warren. “I like quirky personalities, that’s what I try to hire, that’s what I try to work with and OB has a surplus of quirky.”
