The heavy overcast above Pete Ross Stadium was in contrast to the overflowing pride and happiness taking place at Point Loma High School on June 6 as nearly 400 young adults, grasping diplomas, spread their wings to fly away to a myriad of new adventures. For new Principal David Jaffe, it was his first Commencement while it was the 98th in the glorious history of the school.
Jaffe had to halt his address several times for the famed “Pointer Pause” as roaring jets passed overhead seconds after leaving the airport. He connected the tears shed by parents at the birth of their children to the current tears of joy as this era ended. The plans of the graduates are diverse, ranging from entering the workforce and military to Ivy League universities.
