Greetings! This edition of the Mission Times-Courier, I have several exciting updates concerning stopping hate littering, our streets, and affordable housing to bring you.
First off, I have been working with Assemblymember Chris Ward and City Attorney Mara Elliott to craft a bill that combats the terrible antisemitic and homophobic hate littering that we have seen in the Navajo area and elsewhere in San Diego.
In late March, I was on hand as Assemblymember Ward announced his proposal: Assembly Bill 3024, the Stop Hate Littering Act (pictured above). This bill would amend existing law to include hate littering with the intent to terrorize under the definition of “intimidation by threat of violence,” opening up violators of the law to a $25,000 fine per infraction.
In late April, AB 3024 passed the State Assembly by a 61 to 3 vote, and now heads to the State Senate for consideration.
Thank you Assemblymember Ward for carrying this important legislation, which is especially meaningful to the people of District 7.
In other news, I am happy to report that Cowles Mountain Blvd has been repaved.
Following the repaving of Navajo Road earlier this year, we are making progress repaving the roads that are most in need of repairs. However, I am well-aware that there is much more work to do. That’s why I will continue working to secure more funding for road repairs all across District 7.
Finally, I was recently on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the ShoreLINE apartments, a brand new 100% affordable transit-oriented housing complex in Grantville.
Building affordable housing, as well as more housing of all types, is one of the best things we can do to lower costs for working families. I’m proud to have supported the ShoreLINE project from start to finish and I will continue to support ways that we can alleviate our housing crisis.
As always, it is my honor to represent you, and please never hesitate to get in touch with my team with any concerns or requests for assistance.
