A parcel of commercial Village real estate, including Coast Boulevard’s La Jolla Cove Suites hotel and two blocks of Prospect Street properties, was sold in December to a Denver-based apartment management firm. A spokesman for Denver’s Apartment Investment and Management Company said all the properties will continue to operate in their present forms for the foreseeable future. La Jolla Cove Suites officials had sought ways to develop the property through preservation or restoration. Their plans had included rebuilding of the now-sold Red Roost and Red Rest cottages, built in 1894 and subject to restoration restrictions amid their historical designation statuses.
Last month, City Attorney Jan Goldsmith’s office notified the management company’s law firm that the cottages, located on Coast Boulevard, must be properly secured and maintained free of waste, in accordance with the city’s properties ordinances.
