El Cajon’s Cuyamaca College is building its athletics program, and has appointed several new coaches to the women’s track & field team.
Two-time Olympian Chris Benard was named the new head coach of the women’s track & field team. His career in the triple jump speaks to his dedication and passion for the sport. His leadership will reportedly be instrumental in shaping the future of the program.
Also joining the track & field coaching team are two athletes who have achieved greatness in their respective disciplines.
Laulauga Tausaga is a world champion gold medalist in the shot put and discus throw, and will reportedly add a dynamic to the coaching staff. Rolland ‘Jay’ Slade, as a former Paralympic guide-runner for Team USA, is said to bring a unique perspective and a deep understanding of overcoming challenges. Slade is a former Cuyamaca Coyote with sprint records still on the Cuyamaca College men’s track & field All-Time best list.
