
With funding from the Dr. Seuss Foundation, the Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) Foundation will expand its free story time reading program,Trail Tykes, beginning in February 2024.
Launched in 2022,Trail Tykes is a free program for toddlers and pre-K children to learn about nature and Mission Trails through read aloud stories, songs, nature-inspired crafts, and outdoor exploration right outside the MTRP Visitor Center’s doors. To date, Trail Tykes has welcomed more than 1,500 little learners to the free program.
Trail Tykes sessions have taken place every second and fourth Sunday and Monday of the month at 10 a.m., and will also be offered every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. beginning on Feb. 7.
The new Wednesday sessions expansion provide a free after school activity for families with pre-k children to encourage learning, comfort and familiarity with the outdoors, and to help cultivate the next generation of environmental stewards.
Trail Tykes is a free program but advance registration is required to ensure the best possible experience for participants and their families.
