Don’t trail behind and join the City of Santee as folks get outside in 2025.
Santee is offering three fun-filled and nature-packed opportunities for leisure hikes at its first-ever January Trail Mixers.
Trail Mixer Events:
Jan. 11 | 10 a.m. – Family Walk & Tree Planting event at Weston Trail (Two miles round trip).
Meet at Weston Park to plant trees and then take a short walk on the Weston Trail where you’ll have views of Santee Lakes and the beautiful mountain ranges that surround Santee.
Jan. 14 | 3 p.m. – Cowles Mountain Hike starting at the Santee Teen Center (90 minutes).
Hike up the backside of Cowles Mountain with the Santee Teen Center staff and participants. Everyone will meet at the Santee Teen Center before hiking for 45 minutes up and then 45 minutes back down. This trail is difficult so bring appropriate footwear and plenty of water.
Jan. 25 | 10 a.m. – Walker Preserve Trail Hike starting at the Santee Historical Society (2.6-mile round trip).
On the trail, you’ll be treated to a guided hike by a member of the San Diego River Park Foundation. Walker Preserve Trail is Santee’s most family-friendly and a popular trail in San Diego County. The flat decomposed granite trail suits everyone’s needs. You might even catch a glimpse of one of over 30 bird species that call the San Diego River home. Historic farming and mining artifacts are spread along the trail showcasing some of Santee’s history. Historical murals, which were painted by residents and students, adorn the section of trail underneath the Magnolia Avenue bridge.
