The first thing you notice when you walk into Gravity Heights is the light and airy feeling.
The calm decor with rattan accents sets the tone for your experience. Starting with the high ceilings in the indoor seating area, then walking through to the second area, which is an outdoor covered patio, and continuing further to a more casual outdoor dining area with brightly colored picnic tables. They also feature a communal outdoor fire pit table, which would be great for enjoying a happy hour cocktail and snack.
Gravity Heights Brewing expanded to its second location in Mission Valley less than three months ago. It’s in a small strip mall next to the Townsend Apartments, on the back side of Fashion Valley. The first location, where the brewing happens is in Sorrento Mesa. They claim to be a brewery that thinks it is a restaurant. However, the food is so good and creative, that it could be a restaurant that also makes its own beer.
The co-owner, Ryan Johnston, was a chef at the famous French Laundry and Bouchon Bakery in Sonoma, Ca. He brings a very creative menu to the restaurant.
Have you ever had a Tikka Masala Chicken Pot Pie? How about Crab Crusted Halibut? They have tasty salads such as a Strawberry Salad with shaved fennel, goat cheese, Duqqa spice and Saba. The Lemon Chicken and Kale Salad features za’atar cucumbers, chickpeas, dill and more. The deconstructed Shrimp Spring Roll Salad is unique with rice noodles, cabbage, bean sprouts, basil mint, spicy peanut dressing and togarashi peanuts along with poached shrimp and chili crunch.
Not to be outdone, the beer program is headed by local brewmaster Skip Virgilio.
All brewing happens in the Sorrento Mesa location. The beer menu changes daily. Currently on tap are June Gloom, a hazy IPA, Gravity for Good a West Coast Pilsner, Rice Cold Lager a Pilsner and Sandbar a Blonde and all of their beers are gluten-reduced
There is also an extensive cocktail menu and wine list. Hopefully, something for everyone to enjoy.
Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday with another creative menu. Some highlights are Brisket Hash, Blueberry Pancetta, Lemon Merangue Pancakes a variety of wood-fired pizzas and burgers. To drink they offer bottomless mimosas with Cava and a variety of mixers.
Stop by after a long day of work, sit by the fire pit, and enjoy happy hour, offered daily from 3 to 6 p.m.
Like your food? Order a Kitchen Sixer for dessert. What is this? It is a beer to send to the kitchen staff to enjoy in gratitude for a great meal.
