As part of the Grossmont Union High School District’s (GUHSD) effort to provide parents and families with tools and information to keep students safe online, GUHSD is partnerEn g with the National Latino Police Officers Association – San Diego County Chapter y el San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in presenting a free screening of the film “Sextortion: The Hidden Pandemic” at Monte Vista High School on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
According to the filmmaker, the “documentary is an expose into the world of online grooming and sextortion of children – an increasingly growing threat in today’s digitally connected world. By unsealing the (Homeland Security Investigations) case of a top gun pilot with hundreds of victims, and interviewing victims and their parents, this true-crime piece opens the eyes of viewers as to how this atrocious crime is becoming wide-spread.”
“This is an important film which powerfully demonstrates the serious threat that online predators pose to our kids,” said Mary Beth Kastan, GUHSD superintendent. “This screening opportunity is part of our ongoing effort to address this threat and empower our school community with the information they need to keep kids safe online,” she added.
Doors will open at 5:45 pm, and the film will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
Following the film, a panel of experts from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will address the issues discussed in the film and provide other helpful information for families. The event is free and open to all East County students, parents, guardians, and community members. Free parking is available on campus in front of the Event Center.
