It is a busy October slate of events at Helix Charter High this month.
Among the happenings:
Family First Info Night Technology Trends with Teens – Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
So what are the kids up to these days and how can I keep up? Come learn about up-to-date trends in technology like how to check privacy settings on my child’s profiles and how to set up boundaries in the digital world. Learn about some of the latest phone apps that could put you and your child at risk, and tips to keep your family on the same page. Learn more about Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Discord, Twitch, BeReal and many more! Learn simple techniques to better connect with your child and walk away with the tools to create a technology contract for your family. Jon Moffat has presented at Helix for many years and parents have always found him very helpful. This event will be held in the Helix library at 6-7. Alarm Clock Pep Rally – Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 a.m.
All students should join us in the gym for our most exciting pep rally of the year, on the day of the varsity football game against Grossmont. KUSI will be there and it will be televised.
Instrumental Music Field Show – Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
Come watch the 2023 Competitive Field Show of the Helix Highland Band and Color Guard on the football field. This performance is free for all! Spaghetti dinner in front of the Dawg House right after the performance. Tickets/reservations for dinner, as well as details for this event will be available en: www.HELIXINSTRUMENTAL.ORG.
Revised Finals Schedule – Oct 11 & 12
Please CLICK HERE for the letter about the revised schedule during finals. We are hopeful that implementing this final exam schedule will end each semester in a more productive manner for both students and staff. Both days will be early release at 2:14. No school on Friday, Oct 13.
Homecoming Game & Dance – Oct. 12 & 13
The Homecoming football game against Santana will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and the dance will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The dance theme is Vegas Casino (flashy, sequins, red and black, etc). The spirit theme for the football game will be released shortly.
Blood Drive – Wednesday, Oct. 18 – 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
We will host a blood drive in partnership with the San Diego Blood Bank on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. – 2:30 pm. All blood types are greatly needed! With less than a one-day supply of most types, we are asking you to SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT HERE. Students, families and community members are welcome to donate. Helix seniors can get a red cord for graduation if they donate or if someone dedicates their donation to them. Parking is available at 4200 Lowell St. and the Blood Mobiles will be parked by our gym.
Career Fair – Oct. 20 from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Helix’s first annual Career Fair will be held in the gym on Friday, Oct. 20 from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. We will have exhibitors from a variety of industries, including the medical field, IT, programming, construction trades, engineering, army, culinary, law enforcement and much more! Students can attend during lunch, 4th period or after school. Parents are invited to attend!
