If you’re looking for an eye-catching display of Christmas lights, look no further than one La Mesa home.
The residence at 5725 Amarillo (near Fletcher Parkway) displays holiday lights from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. each evening through Jan. 5, 2025. There is no charge to stop and view the lights, with the owner of the home stating this is their gift to the community. There are more than 18,000 lights in play to delight all ages.
Owner Harold W. Holmes noted, “It really warms our hearts when people enjoy the lights. I grew up watching the 1964 Rudolph TV special (I was a bit of a misfit too) and so we have added a projector to play it continuously behind the display (framed by the large ornament arch) so those who are not as old as me will understand who the characters are.”
Among the attractions you can see outside the home:
* Santa Claus in his sleigh, and reindeer flying off of the roof;
* Snoopy in his Sopwith Camel flying escort for Santa;
* Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and friends with the Misfit Toys;
* Woodland creatures on a snow-covered hill;
* The 1964 Rudolph TV special playing on a projector; and
* Other Christmas lights all visible in the front
* A busy airport with Santa in a cargo plane, a helicopter, a hot air balloon, a rocket and skydiving, visible from Nagel Street in the back.
