The Junior League of San Diego played host last Saturday to the 2025 JLSD Board Academy.
JLSD is a local chapter of an international organization of women that promotes volunteerism. The event took place at the Junior League of San Diego House on Maple Street.
The all-day certification program is set up for people with an interest in being part of non-profit boards.
Among the key topics discussed were:
* Encouraging and educating women to pursue nonprofit board roles;
* Understanding the responsibilities and financial duties on board membership;
* Highlighting the impact of board service on community betterment.
The speakers included:
* Valerie Attisha – Vice President, Client and Community Relations, PNC;
* AJ Galka- Gonyeau – Representative, Junior League of San Diego;
* Jen Harris Edstrom – Principal Consultant, Edstrom Community Consulting;
* Javier Guerrero – President/CEO, Coastal Roots Farm.
Joining a nonprofit board is a way to give back to the community, develop leadership skills and expand professional networks.
