The field hockey scene has produced a number of wins for several area teams. At La Jolla High School, head coach Paula Conway and the Lady Vikings headed into action this week with a record of 3-4, scoring a pair of wins in play last week. “We have a young squad, and we keep improving every game,” Conway remarked. “Our young players are learning how to step up and play more physical at the varsity level. Last year, we lost eight seniors.” In action last week, La Jolla beat El Capitan with an overtime goal from Anna Akiyama, assisted by Kenzie Kepper. Junior Anna Parma is leading the team as an explosive midfielder, according to Conway. Conway noted other major contributors to date are Cami Felt on defense, Akiyama in the midfield and Elena Pascual on defense. Elsewhere, The Bishop’s School headed into play this week with a record of 1-2 for head coach Kristin Davidson. Key players to date have included seniors Irene Kim, Christine Wang, Hillary Halter and goalie Carrie Clowney, juniors Alissa Arnold and Megan Watson; and sophomore Jaclyn Horowitz. “We had an intense start to our game season by playing Santana, Canyon Crest and San Dieguito,” Davidson said. “With many absences and illnesses, our younger players are rising to the occasion. “We are playing well together and the players are showing their intensity and joy for the game on the field.”
