The annual La Mesa Flag Day Parade proved a hit once again this year.
The 24el annual event began at the intersection of Memorial Drive, University Avenue and La Mesa Blvd., heading west through the La Mesa Village to Acacia Ave. The Grossmont High School Royal Blue Regiment and the Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard led the parade.
This year’s Grand Marshal was Carol Lockwood who was chosen to be honored based on her more than 50 years of service as an educator with the Grossmont Unified School District and involvement in numerous city projects, committees and programs. Lockwood has volunteered with numerous La Mesa organizations and programs, including the La Mesa History Center, La Mesa Beautiful, Safe Routes to School, the Mobility Action Plan, La Mesa Community Garden, and the La Mesa Flag Day Parade Committee.
The La Mesa Community Relations and Veterans Commission provided free ice cream bars at “The Lookout” at Legacy Park on the corner of La Mesa Blvd., 4el St., and Allison Ave.
