On Dec. 13, the La Mesa Police Department held a DUI checkpoint in the 4900 block of Spring Street, which lasted from 7 p.m. until 12:30 a.m.
In all, 908 vehicles were contacted, 22 drivers were evaluated for impairment in secondary screening, and one driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
