The school board meeting on Tuesday, March 12 will be a celebration for the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, as members of the district’s community will be recognized and honored for their efforts in response to the historic flooding of Jan. 22, 2024.
Principals from Avondale Elementary, Bancroft Elementary, and Kempton Literacy Academy, along with district administrators, will share and honor their staff; the district will also recognize Lemon Avenue Elementary student Sonja Hans, who will share about her “Bracelets for Bancroft” project.
“This meeting is a special opportunity to elevate and honor some of the outstanding individuals and teams and their responses to this unprecedented event,” said David Feliciano, superintendent of La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools. “In the midst of a great deal of chaos our team responded with ingenuity, empathy, and expertise that showcased the talent and heart across our district.”
Among those to be recognized are students appointed as “Safety Ambassadors” by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond, the facilities team that repaired the entire flooring of Bancroft Elementary in just five weeks, as well as students and families at neighborhing schools that donated time, funds, and influence to support the schools most deeply impacted.
“This will be a unique and celebratory time for our community,” Feliciano added. “We are grateful that our board is honoring our community in this way.”
