On behalf of the Rotary Club of La Jolla, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all the community partners who pulled together to make our club’s April 27th Rotary at Work Day a rousing, collaborative success. Twenty-eight people, including members of our club, San Diego City Firefighters (Station 9 and Station 13) and La Jolla High’s Interact Club gathered at a parking lot just behind the post office to repair and replant 35 dead or dying hanging baskets from Prospect, Girard, Hershell and Wall streets.
In addition to the groups mentioned above, supporting our efforts were Laz Parking, who provided our “staging area,” Sicilia Bella restaurant, who provided a water supply for the plants, the Congregational Church of La Jolla, which provided work tables, Adelaide Florists, who provided professional guidance, and Banner Bank, which provided pizzas for the whole crew. In addition, we would like to thank Craig Schniepp, who coordinates the Interact club at La Jolla High, and Sue Duong, one of the parents to whom Rotary recently provided a leadership camp scholarship to, who just wanted to help.
The event was chaired by Rotarian Bill Burch. Additional La Jolla Rotary participants included Dave Brockett, Laurnie Durisoe, Cindy Goodman, Charles Hartford, Dirk Harris, Ken King, Camille McKinnie, Anya Rayes, Diane Salisbury, Bob Schroeder, Rich Velazquez, and David and Susan Weston. All of us deeply appreciate the assistance of those members of the community who stepped up to help make this happen. We could not have done it without you.
Sincerely,
Cindy Goodman
