
Local grads continue to heat up the collegiate winter sports scene these last couple months.
Mercedes Fox-Griffin (La Jolla Country Day School) was one of three Oregon State (8-13) players to hit double figures in a recent 75-65 loss to UCLA in women’s basketball action.
Fox-Griffin, a sophomore guard, finished the day with 16 points, including going 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Ashley Booker (La Jolla Country Day School) is a freshman guard on the women’s basketball team at Seton Hall University. The Lady Pirates came into play this week with an overall mark of 14-8, with Booker having started 17 of the 22 contests.
Hilary White (The Bishop’s School) is a freshman guard/forward on the Whitman College (Wash.) women’s basketball team.
White has been averaging 3.9 points per game as Whitman came into play with a mark of 10-11 this week.
Humboldt State’s Grayson Moyer (La Jolla High) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men’s basketball second team recently.
On the court, Moyer (3.60 cumulative grade point avg.) has been a key part of the Lumberjacks’ rise to the top of the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings, averaging 12.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Humboldt went into play last weekend with an overall record of 16-3.
Brittany Rowe (University City High) is a junior center/forward on the UCLA women’s water polo team.
UCLA defeated top-ranked USC 11-10 to win the Stanford Invitational Tournament recently. The two-time defending NCAA champions started the year undefeated by winning all four games of the tournament.
Susan Bell (La Jolla High) and the UCSD women’s swim team saw action recently at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships.
Bell was part of the 800 free relay team that finished with a time of 7:36.36, good for second in the Triton record book.
Koree Blyleven (The Bishop’s School) is a sophomore driver for the Stanford University women’s water polo team. The Lady Cardinal defeated rival Cal by a score of 7-5 recently to finish third at this year’s Stanford Invitational.
Brandon Davis (The Bishop’s School) is a senior catcher this season for the Georgetown University baseball team.
The Hoyas come off a 2006 campaign in which they won 10 Big East Conference games, the most league wins since 1986 for the squad. GU finished with a record of 24-32 overall, 10-17 in conference play.
