A number of individuals with ties to the Mensajero de Mission Times, Mensajero de College Times y Mensajero de La Mesa areas received various college honors recently.
Among them:
* Meakalia Gilman of La Mesa (computer science program) was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology (New York) for the spring semester of the 2022-23 academic year.
* Joe Holenstein of La Mesa (mechanical engineering program) was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology (New York) for the spring semester of the 2022-23 academic year.
Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete”, “D” or “F”; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.
* Martina Villanueva of La Mesa was named to first honors on the Clark University (Mass.) Dean’s List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the spring 2023 semester.
Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors or a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79 for second honors.
* Jenna Kotyk was named to The University of Alabama president’s list for spring semester 2023.
A total of 12,487 students enrolled during spring semester 2023 at U of A were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s).
* The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) graduated nearly 3,400 students in the 2023 spring semester.
La Mesa residents Mack Arthur Braswell (Associate of Arts) and Mark Aktabowski (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) earned degrees, respectively.
Laquan D’ondre Treyvon Deen of San Diego earned a (n) Associate of Arts from University of Maryland Global campus in spring 2023.
* In May, more than 6,500 University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students received degrees.
Matthew Redfern of San Diego was among the students conferred their degree.
Redfern was a student in the graduate management programs whose program of study was professional MBA program. The degree was a master of business administration.
* Will Carlock of San Diego has been named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s List at Simpson College (Iowa).
Carlock qualified for the academic honor by earning a GPA between 3.70 and 3.99 during the semester.
* Soren Savard of La Mesa was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Dean’s List for the 2023 spring quarter.
Savard is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.
* Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) recently named a number of local students to its 2023 spring provost’s list.
La Mesa residents named to the list for the College of Health Sciences and Professions include: Grace Grijalva, Veronica Pelayo, Catherine Ruyeras y Rebecca Villalobos. San Diego resident Mike Lazernik was also named to the spring 2023 provost’s list for the college of Health Sciences and Professions.
The provost’s list recognition is shared with high-achieving, part-time undergraduate students who exemplify academic success.
Qualifying students must possess a 3.5 or greater GPA and between 6 and 11.99 credit hours attempted for letter grades that are used to calculate GPA.
* Lucas Osborn, majoring in theatre pagserformance from San Diego (92119), was among the students named to Augustana College’s (Illinois) 2022-23 spring semester Dean’s List.
More than 1,000 Augustana students were recognized for the spring semester.
Recognized students have earned this honor for maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.
* Amanda Baron from San Diego earned a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at spring commencement.
More than 1,500 students crossed the stage to receive their degrees at the ceremony. Baron graduated with the following degree: Environmental Safety and Health – Master of Science
