ISLAND VIBES
Discover your “Aloha” at the Catamaran Resort, featuring the Sunset Luaus on Mission Bay, a summer tradition that takes place Tuesdays and Fridays, June 14 through Aug. 30. Fun for the whole family, the luaus feature an all-you-can-eat Hawaiian buffet, island music, Pride of Polynesia hula dancers, fiery torch performers, and a volcano that erupts confetti. All guests receive a lei and tropical mai tai. There are also luau-themed activities for kids like lei-making and festive crafts.
Guests can enhance the experience with Kahuna VIP tickets that include early check-in, an upgraded lei greeting, a souvenir cup, welcome appetizers, a meet and greet with the Pride of Polynesia performers, and reserved seating close to the stage. Hotel guests can receive a 20% discount on luau tickets.
Additional island-themed activities at the Catamaran include a complimentary poolside Keiki (Kids) Club, (daily, 1-3 p.m.), featuring Hawaiian-inspired arts and crafts; complimentary Hula Lessons and fresh flower Lei Making (cost $20) which take place bayside on Tuesdays and Fridays (3-5 p.m.), and a daily Bird Encounter (10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) and the Bird Show (3 p.m., except Sundays and Wednesdays), featuring colorful talking parrots – a real-life outdoor enchanted Tiki room!
FLAVORS OF THE SEASON
A tantalizing addition to any San Diego vacation or staycation is sampling its amazing culinary scene. The Lodge at Torrey Pines, Bahia, and Catamaran resorts offer several events this summer.
The Lodge presents two monthly dinner series. Artisan Table Signature Wine Dinners feature exceptionally crafted, seasonal communal meals paired with California’s finest wines. Summer dates for Artisan Table are June 20, featuring Silver Oak and OVID Wineries; July 18, featuring Far Niente Winery, and Aug. 15, featuring the acclaimed Hundred Acre Wines.
During the Playing With Fire outdoor grilling sessions, The Grill at Torrey Pines pairs up with local chefs to present woodfired dishes, as well as local craft brews. Guests can experience the thrill of the grill on June 10, featuring Chef Greg Frey Jr. from The Golden Door and Duck Foot Brewing Co.; July 8, featuring chef Drew Deckman from Deckman’s en El Mogor and The Original 40 Brewing Co., and Aug. 12, featuring chef Marty Fay with Sandpiper Wood Fired Grill & Oysters and Pure Project Brewing.
Oceana Coastal Kitchen in the Catamaran gets gourmet with Wild Wednesdays, a new weekly four-course tasting menu by executive chef Paul Arias. Each dinner highlights fresh-caught seafood and local produce from the Pacific Beach Farmers’ Market, with optional wine pairings.
Seafood fans can dive into Oceana’s Make Your Own Sushi class on Thursdays (3-4 p.m.) where guests create their sushi rolls alongside the restaurant’s sushi chef. Cost is $21 per person.
Gourmands can also indulge at Chef’s Table on Aug. 9, a new four-course dinner experience at Dockside 1953, Bahia’s distinguished waterfront restaurant. Curated by executive chef Bryan Stuppy, the dinner takes guests on a journey of textures, colors, and flavors that evoke the essence of the summer season. Diners can expect fresh seafood, meat, and produce, with optional wine and cocktail pairings.
FAMILY FUN
The Lodge, Bahia, and Catamaran resorts cater to families with interactive activities all summer long. At the Catamaran, guests of all ages can cozy up with outdoor Movies on the Bay every Monday night, an Ice Cream Social and Family Game Night on Wednesdays, Self-guided Scavenger Hunts, and more.
El Bahia gets into the fun with Animal Encounters on select Wednesdays and Saturdays, courtesy of local wildlife ambassador Wild Wonders, Poolside Bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays, and a daily Kid’s Craft Corner and Family Beach Activity, just to name a few.
The Lodge brings the great outdoors in with its complimentary Slumber Package, a new tent set up for kids inside the guest rooms – ideal for a special movie night with the whole family. Sweet treats await kids on Thursdays with Cookie Decorating (2-3 p.m.) and S’mores (4 p.m.); cost $25 per child.
BLISS OUT
For guests in need of some relaxation, renewal, and self-care during their summer sojourn, zenful offerings abound at all three resorts. Complimentary weekend Wellness Activities at the Bahia Resort range from vinyasa and hatha yoga to Pilates and reflexology, as well as Standup Paddleboard Yoga on Mission Bay.
The Catamaran Resort offers complimentary Yoga on the Bay, a daily open-air yoga session overlooking the bay. Equally serene are The Lodge’s 70-minute Yoga Classes on the Arroyo Terrace (Fridays-Sundays), with views of the ocean. Guests can also connect with nature on one of The Lodge’s two daily guided nature walks to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve featuring soaring coastal bluffs and rare namesake conifers.
STAR-SPANGLED FUN
There will be two fireworks displays over Mission Bay during the Independence Day weekend. Bahia and Catamaran resort guests will be treated to views from the shoreline, a spot for a Bayside Bonfires experience beforehand to toast the sunset and roast s’mores under the stars. Accommodating up to 10 guests, everything is provided including firewood, chairs, s’mores fixings, as well as tending to the fire and clean up.
Revelers at the Bahia and Catamaran resorts can board a historic sternwheeler for the 3rd of July Fireworks Cruise and enjoy views of Mission Bay Yacht Club and SeaWorld’s fireworks displays from the middle of the bay. The cruise will feature a live band, DJ, a cash bar with cocktail specials, burgers, hot dogs, snacks, a photo booth, and party favors. Tickets are $35 for hotel guests and $45 for general admission.
The festivities continue with a 4th of July Family Fireworks Cruise to view SeaWorld’s fireworks show. The cruise will board at the Bahia Resort and includes two live DJs, a cash bar with cocktail specials, burgers and hot dogs, and a photo booth. Tickets are $60.
CRUISE NEWS
This summer marks the return of family Sightseeing Cruises (daily, 6-8 p.m.) between the Bahia and Catamaran resorts on the historic Bahia Belle sternwheeler. Guests of all ages can enjoy a new narrated, 75-minute tour of the bay, its history, and iconic sights. They’re also treated to a seasonal welcome beverage, a self-guided scavenger hunt for kids, and a cash bar with grab-and-go offerings. Tickets are $15 for hotel guests and $20 for general admission.
