San Diego Diverse Business Association presented a two-day fashion event on May 26 and 27 at the Balboa Park Club Ballroom. This “Meet the Designers Fashion Show” was a way for underrepresented groups in the fashion community to showcase their collections for a chance to gain exposure and economic growth.

Participants were given the opportunity to meet the seven top designers virtually on Friday by hearing about their latest projects and asking them questions. On Saturday, the live fashion show demonstrated the latest trends by these talented designers.

Guest listened to a band from Ukraine named U3Zub while they shopped at vendor booths set up around the room. The president of SDDBA, Ena Walters, was on hand to greet all. The mistress of ceremonies for the afternoon was talk show host Brandee J. The DJ providing the tunes for the event was JG.

The show began with Nina Cicolo, who was the first-place top designer at Fashion Week San Diego 2022. Most of the collection was red and black with a splash of white showing off a sophisticated flair.

Next came Jenneva Borboa with her elegant bridal collections. The designs came in all lengths from short to long with delicate lace and beautiful bows of all sizes.

The Black Rac came down the runway with stylish sequin gowns. One of the standouts was a long dazzling black and white gown, which led the audience to cheer, “Ooh la la.” Following this, Baza Couture strutted down the catwalk in beautiful colors of tangerine, violet, and hot pink. Baza Couture was Top Designer of the Year at FWSD in 2017.

Midtrovert showed off fashion-forward designs. Nea Eshe showed off beautifully colored feathered creations that reflected her culture. The unique designs were out of this world. The finale finished with the elaborate fashions of Kenneth Barlis who was on the 19th Season of Project Runway. He is known for his affordable luxury.

Participants were able to spend time shopping after the show. SDDBA is a nonprofit that supports women-owned, minority-owned, LGBTQIA+ owned, and small fashion design businesses. Uplifting and empowering people is what the organization is all about. Para más información visite https://sd-dba.org.
