Car thief sentenced A 19-year-old Pacific Beach woman who said she has always left her keys in the car while at the service station can rest easier now that a thief who stole her car has been sent to prison for two years. Kaylyn Senna stopped for gasoline at a downtown service station and went inside the food mart to pay for gas when she saw a man get into her 2000 Volkswagen Jetta and start to drive it away. Two people nearby stopped the theft when one man hit the suspect once in the face before he ran off, leaving his hat and jacket behind. Matthew Gilbert Mitchell, 28, was arrested. On May 27 he pled guilty to auto theft and driving under the influence of methamphetamine. Mitchell then asked San Diego Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers for immediate sentencing, and got two years in prison plus a $260 fine after Weathers denied probation.
