Take a culinary tour of Asia at Oodles By The Nood Bar Restaurant in La Mesa.
This family-owned restaurant expanded from North Park to the City of La Mesa. They offer an extensive menu of cuisine from many Southeast Asian countries such as Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, and Indonesia. It is going to take a few visits to orient yourself to the different country’s flavors and dishes.
At first, the menu can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with some of the types of foods from Asia. Sometimes, when you are learning about a new cuisine, you have to guess and pick something you have never had before, such as Mi Goreng. This Indonesian dish of Soba Noodles, Chinese Sausage, chicken, shrimp, cabbage, bok choy, and more vegetables.
Many house specialties are unknown, such as a dish that comes from Malaysia called Char Kuay Teaw. It is a dish with flat rice noodles, eggs, Chinese sausage, chicken, shrimp, sweet dark soy sauce, chili bean paste, and more vegetables.
From Hainan China, they offer Hainese Chicken, a dish of poached chicken and ginger rice accompanied by sliced cucumber, and spicy ginger garlic soy sauce.
From Thailand street food comes Bamee Pok Pok, which is steamed egg noodles, chicken wontons, roasted pork, crispy pork belly, garlic oil, and a variety of vegetables, gravy and soy sauce.
Not to worry though, they offer many old faithful items such as Pad Thai, and Drunken Noodles, Chicken Satay and Panang Curry.
Top your meal off with Thai Iced Tea, Thai Iced Coffee or Taro Milk Tea. Perhaps try something new like Mango, Guava, Pomegranate, Lychee, or Pineapple Iced Teas.
For dessert, try their signature dish, (which is offered to dine-in customers only) “Fly Me to the Moon”. Mango ice cream, coconut sweet rice infused with Butterfly Pea Flowers, warm coconut cream and crushed peanut. Oh my!
