On the early morning of Aug. 19, the Patrick Henry High School (PHHS) varsity football team exhibited their exceptional commitment to both teamwork on and off the field.
Under the guidance of PHHS Athletic Director Cody Clark, five young athletes proved that their dedication transcends the football field, making an indelible mark on the Jardín Comunitario San Carlos.
Amidst the vibrant summer colors of the garden, the varsity football players showcased their dedication to teamwork and giving back. They were varsity team captain, Quino Bracamantes, and fellow players Da’Shawn Faust, Ashton Viltz, Max Gonzalez, and Anthony Sweat.
When asked what motivated the players to wake up early to volunteer in the Garden, Team Captain Bracamantes replied, “Giving back to the community gives us the opportunity to give back and build a better bond and chemistry with one another”.
“We strive to develop the whole character of our student-athletes,” said Clark. “These young men spent most of their summer sweating on the football field. So to witness their collaboration and camaraderie on a different type of field (the Garden) was truly inspiring.”
“We love seeing young people get involved in the garden,” said SCCG Board Member, Gayle Mills. “The actions of these students are great reminders that every small effort can make a big difference.” –
