On Saturday, Oct. 28, Pious Projects of America launched a national campaign to feed the hungry, consisting of 1,000 volunteers across the country. More than 20 cities will be participating in making healthy meals, which will be distributed to around one hundred homeless shelters and churches. In San Diego, the campaign will take place on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Muslim Community Center of Greater San Diego, 14698 Via Fiesta, from noon to 4 p.m.
“Feed the hungry…” were the words of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and this is the aim behind Pious Projects’ national campaign to feed the homeless across America. Volunteers across the country will be donating their time to make and pack lunches for those less fortunate.
Leaders in major and minor cities, as well as some cities in Canada, volunteered to lead the event in their areas with the help of local volunteers. Together, they have had around a month to order food, book locations, raise funds, and make the final preparations for Feed the Hungry in their area.
Pious Projects’ first Feed the Hungry campaign was launched only in Chicago in the year 2015. 1,200 meals were made and delivered around the city that year. In 2016, they took the campaign to a national level. Twenty-one cities across the U.S. participated and more than 25,000 meals were made and distributed to the homeless.
Pious Projects of America’s mission is to empower everyone to change the world, one good deed at a time. The idea is that many people love to help, but either don’t know how or where to search. Pious Projects offers a crowdfunding platform online where charities can sign up, commission-free, to raise funds for projects on the site. Pious Projects also fundraises for their own projects. Besides donating, giving others the chance to give their time to causes that they care about is another important aim of the organization; the overarching goal is to get people involved and build a nurturing community.
