FÚTBOL NIÑOS
Regularly playing deep in the playoffs, the Pointer boys finished their season 4-8-4 (0-5-3 in Western League) and received the No. 7 seed in Div. I. They will play No. 10 Southwest San Diego (7-6-9 overall, 2-4-2 in Metro Mesa League) on Feb. 19 with the winner meeting No. 2 seed Eastlake on Feb. 21, who received a first-round bye. WATERPOLO NIÑA
Playoffs began early for the Pointer pool girls after they posted a record of 15-12-1 overall, (7-1 for first place in City League). They scored 120 more goals than the nearest league team. This success earned them the No. 12 seed in Div. II where post-season play began Feb. 10 with the Pointers edging West Hills 14-13 in a thrilling match that went to double overtime. However, the Pointers were eliminated by No. 5 Del Norte 11-6 in a quarterfinal game Feb. 15. It should be noted the “home pools” for all Pointer water sports are the Bud Kearns Memorial Pool at Morley Field and Memorial Pool in Southeast San Diego. Discussions about a beautiful new pool complex proposed for years at Liberty Station appear to be stalled, forcing Pointer athletes to make lengthy drives to practice and compete.
