While the scholastic season for area girls’ golf teams has been in the books for a number of weeks now, one Patrick Henry High product went golfting beyond the regular season.
Sophomore Zadie Posternack became the first-ever PHHS female golfer to end up qualifying for Socal Regionals. She shot 81 (+8) at Regionals, missing going to States by nine strokes.
“Earning a spot at Regionals was a super rewarding and new experience,” Posternack remarked. “It was an honor to represent our school and awesome to be the first in 56 years to do so at Regionals. While I didn’t put up the number I wanted, it helps fuel me to keep working hard. I want to make it back next year with the best high school girls golfers in Southern California in order to advance to State.”
Posternack noted that the post-season events were exciting, especially since she improved upon her results from a year ago.
“The 76 at Balboa for the City Tournament was a super fun round and then the match play for the three days after that was so fun,” Posternack said. “Two of the matches went to extra holes and all of them went the full nine; the competition was really great. Day two of CIF the next week was a highlight too as the 74 at Torrey North was the best 18 hole score of my season.”
According to Patrick Henry High Girls’ Head Golf Coach Michael Jackson, “It was a great experience for Zadie as a sophomore and bodes well for her CIF high school golf career.” Jackson noted the Socal Regional was incredibly competitive to boot.
As a team this season, the Lady Patriots did quite well, according to Jackson.
“We hit all of our team and individual goals, including winning the Eastern League, qualifying six players at the San Diego Championships and qualifying Zadie for CIF,” Jackson stated. “Zadie qualified for Socal Regionals, which is the best season of any PHHS female golfer in history. Congrats to our team and to Zadie on an incredible 2024.”
Posternack was also quite quick to note what a good season it was for the team as a whole.
“Our team had such a great year,” Posternack stated. “Coach Michael does a great job helping us define and create high goals and expectations and then makes working hard at practice fun. Our seniors and really every girl on the team stepped up and tried their best all season long. Winning Eastern League was awesome, and trying to do it again next year is going to be great. We are graduating a few seniors so there will be opportunities for me and my teammates to step up.”
In looking down the road, Posternack wants to make sure golf stays a fun activity in her life.
“To be honest, my main goal is to keep having as much fun as I can and keep working on my swing. I’d love to advance to state next year and compete to win some local tournaments in the coming months and one day play in college but I feel it all starts with my swing. Golf is hard, but it’s worth it,” Posternack stated.
