San Diego Loyal came out with a 2-2 tie against the San Antonio FC on Wednesday night keeping the team, led by head coach Nate Miller, in fourth place in the USL Championship western conference standings.
SD Loyal opened the scoring courtesy of a quick give-and-go between midfielder Nick Moon and teammate Alejandro Guido where the former Xolos de Tijuana and LAFC standout proceeded to beat goalkeeper Jordan Farr with a quick right-footed shot from six yards out.
San Antonio tied the score in first-half added time when a handball inside the box was called on defender Grant Stoneman with the ensuing penalty kick converted by forward Samuel Adeniran.
The home team almost took the lead in the 57th minute when Guido took a shot from 20 yards out that hit the crossbar with the ball bouncing out of the danger area.
San Antonio took advantage in the 67th minute when midfielder Zico Bailey, having just come in as a substitute, found teammate Carter Manley who headed the ball into the back of the net from close range despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Koke Vegas.
San Diego did not fold but instead showed the same grit they did in San Antonio by continuing to pressure and eventually coming out with the tying goal in the 73rd minute. This time it was forward Adrien Perez, who also come in as a substitute, who took advantage of a perfect cross into the box from teammate Tumi Moshobane to beat Farr and make the final score 2-2.
This was the second draw between San Diego and San Antonio in the last couple of weeks with the last one coming on June 3 at Toyota Field when the Loyal came back from an early three-goal deficit to earn a hard-fought 3-3 result.
San Diego Loyal now travels to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday, June 24 to start a four-game road trip.
