By SDUN Staff Report
North Park resident Christy Scannell has joined San Diego Uptown News as editor.
“We are pleased to have Christy as part of our team,” said David Mannis, San Diego Uptown News publisher. “She brings years of writing and editing experience to our company. Her understanding of the Uptown community will be a benefit to readers, who can expect in-depth news as well as compelling feature stories.”
Scannell has worked in print communications for more than 20 years, most recently as a freelance writer and editor. In the late ’90s she owned and operated The San Diego Irish Reporter, serving the city’s Irish population. She has been on staff and freelanced for several newspapers, magazines and Web sites. In 2007 Simon and Schuster published her novel series, “Secrets from Lulu’s Café.” Scannell also teaches writing online and is a former journalism instructor at Grossmont College. She is a board member of the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Originally from Ohio, Scannell has lived in North Park since 1998 and is an elected member and secretary of the North Park Planning Committee.
“I’ve always said the Uptown region is the best place to live in America’s best city,” Scannell said. “I feel privileged to be able to help spread the word about the special people and events that make Uptown such an incredibly diverse and terrific place to call home.”
