
Ola de San Diego came out with a 2-1 victory over the Orlando Pride at Exploria Field this weekend, which moves the team, led by head coach Casey Stoney, into third place in the NWSL standings.
The Wave took the lead in the 7th minute thanks to a goal by defender Abby Dahlkemper and got another from forward and San Diego native Kyra Carusa in the 75th to seal the victory.
The score for Orlando came from Adriana in the 44th minute, but the home team was unable to get another in the remainder of the match thanks to the outstanding play of goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.
San Diego has 27 points, which is the same as the North Carolina Courage and just two behind the league-leading Portland Thorns, who they will face at Providence Park on Sept. 30.
The Wave has five games left in the regular season with back-to-back matches at Snapdragon Stadium versus the Houston Dash on Sept. 3 and Kansas City Current on Sept. 16. If San Diego can finish in the top-two spots it will earn a first-round bye and a home game in the semifinal round of the playoffs.

The Loyal got another great performance from goalkeeper Koke Vegas who came up big in the second-half to help preserve the win for the team led by head coach Nate Miller.
San Diego sits in fifth place of the Western Conference standings and is tied with the Oakland Roots both with 40 points but with Oakland having played one more game. Loyal returns home to Torero Stadium to face off versus the Birmingham Legion on Sept. 3 looking to earn a first-round home playoff game if it can finish among the top four in the conference.
The NISA team, Albión San Diego, earned a point in the standings after a scoreless draw versus the Savannah Clovers at Canyon Crest Academy. The team, led by Diego Gómez, retained the second-seed in the standings despite victories by the Michigan Stars and Maryland Bobcats and has lost just one of its last 10 games. Goalkeeper Ben Roach earned his eighth clean sheet of the season and got a noteworthy performance from forward Shinya Kadono and defender Ernest Mitchell who had to be subbed off in the second half due to an injury. Albion has 29 points after 17 matches and will prepare to take on undefeated Chattanooga FC on Sept. 10 at Canyon Crest Academy for the third and final time this regular season.
El Albión SC San Diego MLS Next 2008 boys squad was crowned champions of the prestigious Albion Pre-Season Elite Showcase on Sunday. The team, led by coach Jorge Garcia, got several noteworthy performances from his players but none more impressive than that of attacking midfielder Hart Redfern who raised the level of his teammates throughout the three-day tournament, which concluded by defeating Arizona Arsenal 1-0 in the championship game.
