Knights roll to 8th victory
The Bishop’s School football team just keeps on racking up the wins.
Coming off a week off due to the wildfires, Bishop’s registered a 38-6 victory over Santa Fe Christian last weekend.
Tommy Wornham returned to QB for the Knights after being out for five weeks. Wornham was 11-for-18 with 205 yards and four TD passes. He threw TD passes to Saron Hood, Mike Eribez, Jacob Kelly and Michael Strauss.
Kelly led all rushers with 132 yards on 11 carries, while Tim Costello added a 32-yard field goal.
The defense held the Eagles to six points as linebackers Will Peck, Zach Frantz, Strauss and Micah Seau stopped the run. Safety Mike P. Jensen had an interception and two fumble recoveries, while Nicky Cox added another interception.
“I’m very proud of our team tonight,” Bishop’s head football coach Mike David said. “Our players played hard for 48 minutes.”
The Knights are now 8-0 and will travel to Francis Parker this Friday at 7 p.m.
La Jolla High netters capture CIF crown
The top-seeded La Jolla High girls tennis team walked away Monday afternoon with the CIF Division III crown in a 10-8 victory over Cathedral High at Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma.
The doubles teams of Jenna Essakow and Lacey McGill and Amanda Lin and Kristina Graf scored victories for the Lady Vikings.
Western League Individuals were scheduled for play this week, with CIF Individuals next week.
Stickers wind down fall season
Several local scholastic field hockey teams are winding down their seasons.
The Bishop’s School headed into action this week for head coach Kristin Davidson with a mark of 6-10. Bishop’s dropped a 4-0 non-league decision to Fallbrook Monday afternoon.
In action last week, Bishop’s lost a 1-1 match-up to Mission Bay High on sudden victory strokes. Bishop’s got its goal from Jeanna Vaccari.
In a 2-0 win over Point Loma, the Lady Knights got goals from Vaccari and Alissa Arnold. Christi Rodriguez added an assist on one of the goals.
“Cassandra Dreher continues to have an amazing season and is reliable and amazing in the midfield and defense,” Davidson said. “Danielle DeJoy has turned out to be one of our fastest defenders and great at marking the opponent’s best forward. Christi Rodriguez is an intense player who is willing to sacrifice anything for the team ” she is aggressive, has great sportsmanship and stays intense during the entire match.”
Elsewhere, Hilltop posted a 2-1 non-league win over La Jolla High last Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Vikings got a goal from Shira Abramowitz on the afternoon.
Finally, Serra posted a 4-1 victory over University City last Thursday.
