Bishop’s, LJCD cagers see action
The Bishop’s School girls varsity basketball team went unbeaten last week in the Matador Classic.
On Dec. 5, Bishop’s scored a 69-50 win over Hilltop to raise its record to 4-0 on the season.
Michelle Brunker led the way with 24 points, with Gizelle Studevant adding 20.
Meantime, La Jolla Country Day School goes into the holiday break with a record of 6-2.
LJCD fell to Troy last week 56-46 in the Troy Hoops Showcase.
Janae Fulcher led the Lady Torreys with 14 points.
Vikings JV hoopsters go to 2-0
The La Jolla High School junior varsity girls basketball team improved to 2-0 for the first time in five years after defeating Mar Vista 29-26 in a come-from-behind victory last week.
The Lady Vikings trailed the Lady Mariners through three quarters but took a 27-26 lead on Anna Parma’s free throw with 45 seconds left in the game. Parma then iced the game with a steal and a coast-to-coast lay-up with nine seconds on the clock.
Robin Mackelburg poured in eight points to lead all scorers. Taylor Templeton keyed a strong defensive effort with eight rebounds and five blocked shots.
“Mar Vista was a very physically aggressive team,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank said. “Our girls did a great job of stepping up their game and playing hard. They showed a lot of competitive fight to come back in the fourth quarter and earn the victory.”
