La Jolla High netters start 5-0
Year in and year out, the La Jolla High girls tennis team is at or near the top of the pecking order on the local scholastic scene. This year is proving no different.
Heading into action this week, head coach Maggie Mulkins had her Lady Vikings off to a 5-0 start.
According to Mulkins, key players to date have included Heather Holladay, Amanda Lin, Kristina Graf, Alexi Archambault, Elyse Cummins and Jenna Essakow.
Bishop’s polo sinks La Jolla in OT
In a battle of neighborhood rivals, The Bishop’s School squeaked out a 6-5 overtime win over La Jolla High last Friday in boys water polo action.
Bishop’s sophomore Scott Siegel scored the game-winning goal with seven seconds remaining in overtime. Siegel finished with two goals. Other scorers for Bishop’s were Alex Pulido (two) and Justin Wolfe (two).
Lady Vikings race to victory
The La Jolla High girls cross-country team pulled ahead for a narrow 27-28 victory over rival University City (UC) High last Wednesday.
According to La Jolla High head coach Roger Karnopp, this was the first time the Lady Vikings have beaten UC in at least seven years.
La Jolla was led by Courtney Avvampato (19:08), Tess Plant-Thomas (19:14), Margot Hedlin (19:16), Meagan Bautista (19:46) and Lily Howard (19:47).
The junior varsity also won, rolling to a 15-50 triumph. The Lady Vikings were led by Tatevik Simovaryan, Jenine Mejres and Rosie Jaye (all same time), and Michelle Ciesla and Ellie Lee.
