Bucs hold signups for fall softball league Incoming eighth-, ninth- and 10th-grade girls looking to swing for the fences can sign up for Mission Bay High School’s (MBHS) girls’ softball fall ball. Signups will be held through July 31. The fall ball season runs from mid-August through mid-November and is less competitive than the spring season. It can also help those looking to break into the high school softball coaching ranks. MBHS is holding two softball clinics at McEvoy Field, 2701 Grand Ave., on the next two Sundays. A free batting clinic will be held Sunday, July 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. and a free fielding clinic will be held Sunday, Aug. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. Interested players can e-mail [email protected] before July 31. The cost per player ranges between $90 and $110. Beach VB tourney accepting players The King and Queen Beach Volleyball Celebration is accepting registration for its annual round-robin tournament to be held Saturday, July 24 at Mariner’s Point. The event, which serves as a fundraiser for San Diego BIG (Beach Improvement Group), is open to all skill levels, ages 14 and older. The entrance fee is a suggested donation of $30. There will be eight divisions from professional to social and players are guaranteed six to nine games. Check in is at 8 a.m. and play begins at 9 a.m. The final playoff rounds are expected to begin at 2 p.m. Domino’s Pizza will be on hand to serve lunch and players eat for free. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend the event and may purchase pizza for a recommended $5 donation. Prizes will be awarded from Gatorz Sunglasses, Pocket Pumps, SeaWorld, Mission Beach Chiropractic and more. The after-party includes a silent auction at The Pennant, 2893 Mission Blvd., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go toward beach volleyball and basketball sports equipment at South Mission Beach.
