A number of graduates with ties to the area are heating up the collegiate winter sports scene.
Ashley Booker (La Jolla Country Day School) is a freshman member of the Seton Hall University women’s basketball team. Booker was named the women’s basketball Big East Rookie of the Week earlier this month.
Booker, the starting point guard for the Pirates, led Seton Hall to a 66-52 victory over Providence on Dec. 5. The former Lady Torrey scored 14 points and shot 7 of 11 from the field. In addition, Booker added five steals and three rebounds in the win.
Tamika Lipford (The Bishop’s School) is a sophomore guard for the San Diego State University (SDSU) women’s basketball team. The Lady Aztecs had a 5-3 record heading into action last week. Lipford has started five of six games for SDSU.
Hilary White (The Bishop’s School) is a freshman guard on the Whitman College (Wash.) women’s basketball team. Whitman came into play this past week with a 5-4 record.
Brittinee Yasukochi (The Bishop’s School) is a freshman guard on the women’s basketball team at Occidental College. Occidental came into play last week with a record of 4-2.
Grayson Moyer (La Jolla High) is a junior guard on the Humboldt State men’s basketball team. Humboldt State entered play last week at 5-2, with Moyer averaging 6.9 points per game.
Eric Moore (The Bishop’s School) is a sophomore guard for the Williams College (Mass.) men’s basketball team. Williams had a 5-4 record heading into play recently.
Susan Bell (La Jolla High) is a senior swimmer on the women’s team at the University of California, San Diego. At the conclusion of last month’s Speedo Cup, the UC San Diego women finished in second place and Bell was among 12 women who qualified for the NCAA Championships at the meet.
